Welcome to Ledger
Ledger hardware wallets are designed to give you complete control and security over your digital assets. Whether you’re holding Bitcoin, Ethereum, or other cryptocurrencies, your private keys remain safely stored within your device — isolated from online threats. This Getting Started Hub walks you through everything you need to set up your device, install the Ledger Live app, and start managing your crypto with confidence.
1. Unbox Your Ledger Device
When you receive your Ledger Nano X or Nano S Plus, verify that the packaging is sealed and untampered. Inside the box, you’ll find:
- Your Ledger device (Nano X or Nano S Plus)
 - A USB cable
 - Recovery sheets for your 24-word phrase
 - Instruction booklet and keychain accessories (optional)

Never use a device that looks preconfigured or comes with a prewritten recovery phrase. Always generate your recovery phrase yourself using your Ledger device.
2. Download Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official companion app for managing your crypto assets. Download it only from the official website: ledger.com/start. Ledger Live is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
Once installed, open Ledger Live and follow the on-screen instructions. You’ll be guided to connect and initialize your device.
3. Set Up Your Ledger Wallet
Connect your device using the provided USB cable (or Bluetooth for Nano X). Follow the steps on your device screen:
- Choose “Set up as new device.”
 - Create a secure PIN code.
 - Write down your 24-word recovery phrase — this is your backup key. Keep it private and offline.

Your recovery phrase is the only way to restore access to your funds if your device is lost or reset. Ledger never stores or sees this phrase.
4. Install Apps and Add Accounts
Using Ledger Live, navigate to the “Manager” tab to install cryptocurrency apps on your device. Each crypto (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana) requires its own app. After installation, go to “Accounts” to add wallets for each currency. Ledger Live will sync your accounts, allowing you to view balances, send, and receive assets.
5. Secure Your Assets
To send crypto, confirm transactions directly on your Ledger device screen — ensuring full protection from online attacks. Always double-check recipient addresses before approving. Ledger hardware wallets support over 5,000 tokens and can connect to popular Web3 platforms for staking or NFT management.
6. Stay Safe
Ledger will never ask for your 24-word recovery phrase. Be cautious of phishing sites, fake apps, and unsolicited messages. Always verify the URL (https://www.ledger.com) and keep your firmware up to date using Ledger Live.
